Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I use the information.org mainpage?

A: To use information.org, type the search you want to run into the main search box. Then, click on any of the engines listed below the search box on the main page. Alternatively, if the search text box is empty, you can click on any engine and the engine that you search above will be dynamically changed to the engine you just selected.

Q: What are information.org's Unique Search Results?

A: Our search engine, simply called information.org, is a unique engine helping you find the most appropriate search engine to start your search with! Try searching for music or computer definition and we will return to you the engines that are most relevant to your search term. As we get more and more engines in our database, our search results will only get better and better! (On a side note many people ask how exactly this works and we are able to recommend good matches like we do. We can only say "it has taken many, many hours of work"!)

Q: What are the highlighted engines?

A: Highlighted engines are those search engines we have partnered with to provide their search results directly within the information.org web site. These searches are run through our site and you don't have to even leave the information.org website to view these search results!

Q: Is information.org a meta search engine?

A: No. A Meta Search Engine downloads results from multiple sites at a time, then ranks those listings based on the most frequently found results from those engines. Because a meta search engine usually downloads the results from 5 or more engines, your results wind up being fairly slow. This is because all results have to be passed back to the Meta Search Engine for processing, and then those results are sent back to you. We consider information.org a Search Engine Aggregator service, where we allow you to access results from as many search engines as possible, with very little effort and fast results!

Q: How is information.org most effectively used?

A: Start your search with any search engine that you wish to use. After seeing the results from that specific engine, you can then use the drop down box and links in the upper right hand corner of the information.org site to easily browse to hundreds of other engines - all without having to retype your search all over again. This makes it easy for you to browse many different search engines very easily, so you can have a much better chance of finding the information you are looking for! You can use information.org to help you find the engines that you like and that deliver the results that are most relevant to you!

Q: Can I customize my Preferences on information.org?

A: Yes, you can customize your preferences and information.org will remember your settings based on cookies, thus when you return again all of your settings will remain in place. You have the ability to customize settings from the primary search engine used to the navigation methods you prefer.
